PDO Threads

PDO threads are thin biodegradable threads made of polydioxanone.

PDO threads are inserted into the sub-dermal level of the skin in a mesh-like pattern. Once inserted, PDO threads stimulate the production of collagen and create structural support in the tissues which creates a tightening and smoothing effect. Collagen is extremely important in maintaining firm, youthful looking skin.

PDO threads can be combined with other cosmetic treatments, such as dermal fillers and PRP.

At Derm Haus Brisbane, often we combine PDO thread treatments with dermal filler treatments. Combining PDO threads and dermal filler can give you a complete and natural approach to reversing and reducing the signs of ageing. PDO threads assist by smoothing and tightening the skin, whereas, dermal filler helps restore volume loss, for example in the cheeks, to support the lower face.

Mono threads are placed directly to the area of concern to stimulate natural collagen production and provide an improvement of skin laxity.

Barbed threads are generally placed in the hairline area and used to pull back the skin to produce a lifting action.

At Derm Haus Brisbane we use mono threads.

PDO threads will begin to stimulate collagen production over the 12 weeks following your treatment.

Treatment results will vary between patients.

PDO threads dissolve slowly and safely approximately 6 months after insertion.

The longevity of PDO threads treatments will vary between patients.

Our pricing for PDO threads is per area (for example, nasolabial, jawline or stomach). Pricing starts from $500 (see full price list above).

During a Medical Aesthetics Consultation, your Nurse will provide you with a quote for your treatment.

During your PDO threads appointment, one of our Registered Nurses will provide you with a comprehensive consultation and general advice regarding if PDO thread treatments are suitable for you.

The treatment starts with a topical anaesthetic to numb the treatment area. Then the PDO threads are inserted using a fine needle and cannula. Treatment sessions typically take between 30 to 45 minutes and are performed by our highly skilled Registered Nurses.

After the procedure, you may experience mild tenderness, bruising, pain or stinging. This is common and should resolve over the next 2 weeks. Many clients add an LED session to their PDO threads treatment to expedite the bruising process.

It’s up to you. If you book a PDO threads appointment we will have enough time to conduct an focused consultation and for the treatment to be performed.

However, if you would like to have an full-face assessment and discuss a range of treatment options with our Registered Nurses, we recommend booking a Medical Aesthetics Consultation first. This Consultation is an hour long and includes enough time to perform most PDO thread treatments but you also have the option to book the treatment at a later date.

There is no preparation required prior to your PDO thread treatment. However, we do recommend the following prior to your procedure:

• Avoid alcohol and tobacco

• Avoid medications such as ibuprofen, aspirin and fish oil

• Ensure you have had adequate fluid and dietary intake prior to your appointment

• Have an icepack in the freezer at home to assist with post-procedure swelling and bruising.

Clients who are concerned about bruising may wish to obtain anti-bruising medication, such as arnica, prior to their treatment.

To enjoy the best results and to avoid any adverse reactions, it is important to follow your aftercare instructions which your Nurse will discuss with you during your appointment and provide you with a pamphlet to take home.
