Dermal filler FAQs
-
Dermal filler is a soft, gel-like substance that, when injected under the skin, can achieve a range of aesthetic outcomes, including; enhancing features, contouring facial structures, restoring volume loss, promoting hydration, smoothing fine lines, and improving general radiance. The outcome depends on the density of the filler, the technique used to inject and the area being treated.
Dermal filler treatments can carry potential risks and adverse reactions, and results and longevity of treatments may vary between patients.
-
Dermal filler has proven to be very effective for anti-ageing because it increases collagen, elastin and hydration support.
As we age our collagen production decreases and our face loses subcutaneous fat, structural support from fat pads and elasticity. This causes our features to lose their definition, become saggy, and for skin folds to form.
Dermal filler assists to restore facial structures and lift, add volume, hydrate, and rejuvenate the face in a minimally invasive and natural-looking way.
-
Dermal filler treatments are instant, so you’ll begin to see results immediately after your treatment.
Expect up to 2 weeks to see the full effect of the treatment, as it can take this long for the filler to fully integrate into the tissue.
At Derm Haus Brisbane, we offer a complimentary 2 week follow-up appointment to assess the results of your dermal filler treatment.
-
Dermal filler pricing starts from $450 (see above for the full price list).
-
Your dermal filler appointment will begin with a consultation with a Registred Nurse and one of our friendly Doctors who will provide a prescription for your dermal filler (provided no contraindications are identified).
Next, the procedure begins. Your Nurse will clean the injection site/s with an antibacterial agent and may apply a specialist numbing cream to the treatment area to minimise discomfort (depending on the treatment area).
Once the numbing cream has taken effect, your Nurse will start injecting the dermal filler into the treatment area/s. The injections may cause mild discomfort, however, this is normally tolerated well by most patients. The treatment is generally over within 10-15 minutes.
Immediately after your treatment, you may notice mild to moderate swelling, bruising, and/or tenderness in the treatment area. This is common with dermal filler treatment and generally resolves within 24 to 72 hours, however, this can be up to 2 weeks for larger treatments.
If it’s your first appointment at Derm Haus Brisbane, we recommend booking a Medical Aesthetics Consultation first. During this appointment, your Nurse will take the time to understand what you want to achieve and answer all your questions. They will then conduct a facial assessment and skin analysis and provide you with your treatment options and pricing.
-
It’s up to you. If you book a Dermal Filler or Lip Filler appointment we will have enough time to conduct an focused consultation and for the treatment to be performed.
However, if you would like to have an full-face assessment and discuss a range of treatment options with our Registered Nurses, we recommend booking a Medical Aesthetics Consultation first. This Consultation is an hour long and includes enough time to perform most dermal filler treatments but you also have the option to book the treatment at a later date.
-
It is recommended that dermal filler treatments are performed two weeks prior to a COVID vaccination or at least two weeks after vaccination, to avoid any adverse reactions occurring. This also means that the side effects of the filler treatment or the vaccination cannot be mistaken for one another.
-
There is no preparation required prior to your dermal filler treatment. However, we do recommend avoiding the following:
Waxing, bleaching or using hair removal in the treatment area for 24 hours prior to your treatment
Laser therapy, dermal needling and invasive skin therapies for 1 week prior to your treatment
Getting sunburnt
Alcohol, anti-inflammatories and fish oil in the 24 hours prior to your treatment
If you have an active cold sore or infection in the treatment area, you’ll need to reschedule your appointment.
-
To enjoy the best results and to avoid any adverse reactions to your dermal filler treatment, it is important to follow your aftercare instructions which your Registered Nurse will discuss with you during your appointment and provide you with a pamphlet to take home.

Dermal filler is not suitable for women who are pregnant, breastfeeding or trying to conceive, or anybody with a muscular, neurological disease (including Bell’s Palsy) or autoimmune disorders.
Dermal filler is also not suitable if you have an active cold sore. If you have an active cold sore, you will need to wait until it has resolved entirely.
If you have a history of cold sores, your Nurse will discuss taking preventative antiviral medication immediately after your treatment.
During your appointment, your Registered Nurse and Doctor will discuss any medications that you are taking, as well as any medical conditions that you may have and will discuss your suitability for the treatment.
If you are unsure if dermal filler is suitable for you, the best thing to do is to book a Medical Aesthetics Consultation first.
