PRP aftercare
To enjoy the best results and to avoid any adverse reactions it is important to follow your aftercare instructions.
The Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP) that has been injected into your skin is a natural substance extracted from your blood. Because of this, it is fragile and needs to be treated carefully to allow it to complete its regenerative work, particularly in the first 48 hours.
Immediately after the procedure, the injection area will feel tighter and lines and wrinkles will appear minimised. This degree of skin tightening will not last and over the next 4 days your skin will return to normal, however, under the skin the PRP treatment has begun to work its magic making new cells and improving the subsurface layers of the skin.
To maximise the healing benefits from the PRP Therapy, please follow these guidelines:
Do not wash your face with cleansers or apply liquid make-up for 12 hours post-procedure. If you need to wash your face, please do so only after 4 hours and use warm water without soap
If you require pain relief, use paracetamol
Do not use any anti-inflammatory medication such as Ibuprofen
Avoid oral steroids such as prednisone for 7 days post procedure with permission from your prescribing physician
For patients who regularly take aspirin, resume 48 hours post procedure, unless otherwise directed by physician
Minimise alcohol, caffeine and supplements that may increase bruising for 2 days post procedure
Avoid exercise that would usually create a flushed face or excessive facial perspiration for 24 hours post procedure.
Swelling
In some cases patients can have a significant swelling response in the under-eye area. This is due to the body initiating an amplified regenerative process and will usually be evident at the time of the procedure. Your treating practitioner will assess any swelling, and if necessary, apply ice for a short period to calm down the local response and minimise post-procedure downtime.
If progressive swelling occurs after you leave the clinic, apply ice wrapped in a clean cloth to the area for 5 to 10 minutes, up to 3 times a day and sleep with an extra pillow for the first night to help reduce the under eye swelling.
Infections
Infections caused by PRP are extremely rare, however, if you experience progressive swelling, redness, heat, oozing, or changes to the treatment site 24 hours after your procedure please contact Derm Haus Brisbane or speak to your Doctor.
Soreness
PRP Skin Rejuvenation Therapy releases growth factors that stimulate the production of collagen in the skin and the body's normal healing response. Because the growth factors are more concentrated, the healing response is more pronounced and therefore the application site may feel as if it has been injured, potentially feeling sore, tender to touch, and warm. These symptoms can last up to 4 days and then should ease.
Skin rejuvenation program
PRP Therapy is designed to be used as part of a comprehensive skin rejuvenation program supervised by your dedicated Derm Haus Brisbane Cosmetic Nurse or Dermal Therapist.
General
As with normal medical guidelines - a healthy diet, minimal caffeine/alcohol and adequate sleep will allow your body the best chance for an optimal outcome. Individual healing will progress at different rates depending on age, general health and skin condition.
Many people notice improvements in overall skin appearance 4 weeks after the procedures, however, it can take up to 12 weeks for full results to take effect.
The number of PRP treatments required will depend on your individual needs and concerns, this will be discussed during your initial consultation. As a general guide, we typically recommend a treatment course of 3 to 4 sessions, with 4 week intervals in between, then a maintenance treatment every 9 to 12 months.
Follow up appointment
At Derm Haus Brisbane, we offer a 2 week complimentary follow-up appointment to assess the results of your PRP therapy. In the meantime, our team is always here if you have any questions or concerns about your treatment:
